Current navigation systems identify routes based on total trip time and/or distance. However, some travelers, such as families with children or those wishing to avoid congested or crowded areas during pandemic conditions, might wish to choose a route that is safer despite having a longer time/distance. Existing systems provide little or no ability for users to determine routes that maximize safety, or that at least take safety into account. This patent describes a method for choosing a travel route based on safety considerations.
