Rapid detection of biological substances may be required in a number of applications like monitoring water supplies. This needs high sensitivity and high selectivity (i.e., low false-alarm rate) which can be costly and complex to design. This patent describes a technique for rapid real-time sensing of proteins in aqueous samples using direct absorption techniques.
